Strategic Planning Model

This morning in my graduate studies, we have tackled about strategic planning in the subject Organizational Analysis. I have been working in the academe for almost 1 and a half year and have been a part of an organization and if I am going to analyze the situation, yes! we do planning but implementation wise… a big question????

SWOT Analysis

Every program or department in our school, were given task to conduct SWOT analysis in our program and I must say not all programs in our school have presented their analysis on their department. We have a very good manager and a leader our President but I don’t think he is an effective leader because some of the people under him do not follow him and I feel very sorry for him. I am very privilege to work with him because I believe for myself that he is really a good mentor in terms of institutional development. A good manager I must say, but not an effective leader.

Strength

What is the strength of our program? First, According to my program chair, it is the faculty line up ‘coz we have him a doctor in Information Technology as our head and we also have skilled faculties. Second is, still according to him we are the first program in our school that has a strong foundation in research since we have him again as our head. Third, we are firm in our advocacy that if the school really can’t provide us enough money to buy all the licenses then we need to use FOSS, and I am so proud to say that this is my advocacy. Fourth, I think is our librarian, she is very active and very supportive with regards to our book request. I really love her. (^_^)

Weaknesses

One of the weaknesses of our program is that I must say rooted from the administration itself. We don’t have enough budget. Even though we keep on making annual proposed budget but still it is very unclear to me what are their plans for our program. But, if you are really persistent in giving them the “voucher” to the point that you are begging them this certain amount of money as if the school is yours, they sometimes give. (^_^). I think that is the major problem of our program. But, I believe that is very common to all organization I think. 

Opportunities & Threats

In terms of opportunities, I guess the faculty has a lot of opportunities. Being in the field of Information Technology is an opportunity itself. In terms of threats, we have a lot of threats. The schools surrounding regional XI are the threats of our program. hehehe…

But what I appreciate the most is the MLIS that was shared by Sir Randy. You cannot manage people. You can only lead them. J
